Leave
a Legacy
Leave a legacy by either including F.R.O.S.T. as a beneficiary
in a new will or by adding a codicil to an existing will.
There
are four ways by which you can leave a legacy to F.R.O.S.T.:

A
stated sum of money (a pecuniary bequest)
-
An
'inflation-proofed' sum of money
-
The
entire residue of your estate - everything that is left over after
payment of all debts and other bequests
-
A
share of the residue of your estate
You
will need to discuss with your professional adviser how best to include
the following suggested wording in your will. For the first three ways
you will need to include the statement:
"I bequeath
to The Friends OF St Thomas of Canterbury, East Clandon, Surrey, Registered
Charity Number 1096354"
If
you wish to make a straightforward bequest of a stated sum of money you
would then say:
"the sum
of £..............(in words.......................)."
For an 'inflation-proofed'
bequest you would say:
"the sum
of money produced by dividing the sum of £................ by the
index figure in the Index of Retail Prices ("the Index") for
the month in which this Will is executed and (having made allowance for
any re-basing of the Index which may have happened in the meantime) multiplying
it by the Index figure in the Index for the month in which my death occurs"
For
a bequest of the entire residue of your estate you would say:
"the residue
of my estate."
For a bequest
of a share of the reside of your estate you would say:"
My Executors shall
divide the residue of my estate into equal shares and shall hold such
shares as follows:
(a)
as to (specify number) such shares for The Friends Of St Thomas Of Canterbury,
East Clandon, Surrey, Registered Charity Number 1096354.
(b)
as to (specify number) such shares for (legatee) of (address) absolutely.
Note that there are
tax implications of dividing the residue of an estate between charitable
and non-charitable beneficiaries and your professional adviser will be
able to assist you with this. You should also include in your will a receipt
clause and your professional advisor will be able to advise you as to
its form.
