After 1,000 years, The Church of St Thomas of Canterbury is still the focal point of East Clandon, one of the best preserved villages in Surrey. The Friends of St Thomas of Canterbury [FROST] help preserve this Grade 1 listed building for both villagers and visitors alike. FROST is not a religious organisation, rather a community group and its fund raising activities not only generate community spirit but also raise vital funds to help maintain, protect and enhance the fabric of our historic church building for the future.
All ancient buildings need regular, careful and sympathetic attention to ensure their preservation. The day to day costs of running our church can just about be met from its regular income. But this leaves no resources when major works are necessary. Over the last 17 years substantial sums have been needed to cover the cost of re-shingling the steeple, re-tiling part of the roof, repairing the gutters, upgrading the heating system, providing for a new window and renovating the church organ. The future will undoubtedly bring the need for further improvements and repairs. We will need your support – please become a Friend of St Thomas today and help preserve our church for future generations.
There are many ways to be a Friend of FROST. Simply come along to one of our many fund raising events in the village or fill a “FROST pot” jar with odd coins and, when full, donate the money to FROST.
